Bone under a microscope

This Week's Photograph 17 November 2013<br />
A light micrograph of human bone in cross section stained. Circular structures in purple are the Haversian canals inside individual green-orange-yellow osteons. Canaliculi radiate outward from the Haversian canals through the layers of Lamellae with dark Lacunae and connect to other canals transporting metobolites and circulating tissue fluids. Spaces in between the osteons are interstitial systems.
