Bone under a microscope

A light micrograph of human bone in cross section under polarized light.  Circular structures in oragne-pink are the Haversian canals insideindividual osteons with a bright blue osteocyte in the center.  Canaliculi radiate outward from the Haversian canals through the layers of Lamellae with dark Lacunae and connect other canals and osteocyktes transporting metabolites and circulating tissue fluids.  Spaces in between the osteons are interstitial systems.  Original magnification on 35mm - 25x
